Stepping into Suigian feels like stepping into the set of Hollywood's idea of a stylishly luxurious lounge in Tokyo. This bar has all the elements one would expect from a premier establishment: fashionable ambient music, wait staff in suits and kimonos, food meticulously plated onto classic black and red laquerware, Japanese art pieces and antiques that blend seamlessly with ultra modern interior. Located under the historical Fukutoku Shrine, which dates back to the 9th century, it is the perfect location to revive the former distinction of Nihonbashi as the center of commerce and culture in Tokyo. The centerpiece of Suigian is an all-wood stage, a sacred space that appears to be floating as it's lighted from below. The highlight of a visit to Suigian is a traditional Japanese art performance. Shows vary each time featuring artists dedicated to noh, kabuki, bunraku, rakugo to name a few. Treat yourself to an opulent experience at this trend-setting social center.
