Tucked away into Kamakura's peaceful eastern hills lies the impressive Hokokuji Temple. Famous for its mesmerizing bamboo garden, you can relax and escape the sun’s harsh rays here whilst being in the presence of over 2000 bamboo trees.

Founded in 1334, Hokokuji flourished as a family temple for both the Ashikaga and Uesuji Clan where the ashes of these lords are believed to be scattered within the hillside caves located behind the picturesque bamboo garden.

Whilst the hordes of weekend tourists can be a little overwhelming, if you manage to come here during the week this will provide a more tranquil experience.
