Nippon Maru

Rainy day woman

What comes to mind when you think of sailing ships? Blue skies and billowing sails? Probably so. But sometimes,…well it rains. And a sailing ship can look pretty good in the rain. Take the Nippon Maru for example, a former training ship for the Japanese Merchant Marine, she’s now moored at Yokohama’s Minato Mirai. Built in 1930, the ship became a floating museum in 1984. A cloudy, rainy day might be just the time to visit her. There will be fewer visitors, and if you’re a photographer, those rain-slicked decks and vibrant colors will make folks think you’re a pro.
