The travel platform's latest data shows that searches for "autumn foliage travel" jumped by more than 25% in parts of Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Chubu compared to last year.
So where are travelers looking this year? The results revealed a clear trend, with visitors craving trips that combine brilliant fall colors with the soothing properties of hot springs. From onsen towns tucked in the mountains to scenic gardens and valleys, here are a few of the standout prefectures leading Japan's autumn travel boom.
Kagawa Prefecture (+49%)
The quiet beauty of Shikoku is getting noticed. Kagawa saw the biggest surge in interest, with travelers drawn to the island's mix of gardens, valleys, and temples. Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu is a must-see, while Mikado Valley and the temple grounds of Okuboji offer that perfect blend of nature, history, and serenity.
            Shizuoka Prefecture (+38%)
With Mount Fuji as a backdrop and plenty of hot spring hideaways, Shizuoka is made for an autumn escape. Searches here focused on Shuzenji Onsen and the Dream Suspension Bridge at Sumatakyo Gorge, which are both ideal spots to enjoy crisp mountain air and a peaceful overnight stay surrounded by fiery leaves.
            Hyogo Prefecture (+33%)
Easily reached from Osaka or Kyoto, Hyogo is attracting travelers looking to balance city sights with relaxation. Arima Onsen, one of Japan's oldest hot springs, is a favorite pairing with Kobe's chic urban charm. Sorakuen Garden and Zuihoji Park are also top picks for a bit of leaf-peeping within easy reach of the city.

Hiroshima continues to shine as a destination where culture and nature meet. The World Heritage island of Miyajima with its famous Momijidani Park is stunning in autumn, while Taishakukyo Gorge draws visitors eager to hike among dramatic cliffs and colorful forests. It's a perfect mix of history, scenery, and calm.
