All Nippon Airways will resume its Tokyo-Sydney route starting December 11th 2015, connecting Japan and Australia's biggest cities for the first time in 16 years.
Inbound flights from Sydney to Tokyo will depart at 9:30 pm and arrive at 5:05 am the next day, allowing tourists to explore the Japanese capital from the morning, or connect to domestic flights and arrive in other Japanese cities by around midday. The return outbound flights are scheduled to depart Haneda at 10:10 pm and arrive in Sydney at 9:35 am the next day. The route will be serviced by the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The commencement of the Haneda–Sydney route is undoubtedly great news for both inbound and outbound tourists, which totalled over 3 million in 2014, with outbound averaging 30% growth over the last 5 years.
The snowy areas of Hakuba and Niseko are especially popular among Australians in the winter, who look to escape the heat of their home country for some of the best snow and ski slopes in the world just a few hours away.
ANA's Tokyo–Sydney route, combined with the new Qantas route connecting Narita and Brisbane (starting August 1st), is expected to increase the number of passengers between Japan and Australia by 150,000.
Sydney is the latest of ANA's new destinations; in 2015 alone, ANA has expanded its servicing routes to include Houston (started June 12th), Kuala Lumpur (September 1st), and Brussels (October 25th). Reservations and information about fares for the Tokyo-Sydney flight are scheduled to be announced in August on ANA's official website.
