To commemorate its 100th anniversary, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum will host a landmark exhibition drawn from the collection of the Musée d'Orsay. Opening in November 2026, What a Wonderful World: Masterworks from the Musée d’Orsay brings together approximately 110 works that capture how artists found beauty and meaning amid the rapid social changes of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Presented in the museum's Special Exhibition Room in Ueno Park, the exhibition features paintings, sculptures, crafts, and photographs on loan from the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, which itself celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026. Spanning Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Symbolism, the works explore diverse forms of joy, contemplation, and everyday life during a transformative era.

Highlights include Vincent van Gogh's luminous Starry Night over the Rhône and Jean-François Millet's iconic The Gleaners, both of which continue to inspire contemporary audiences. Visitors will also encounter masterpieces by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Maurice Denis, Paul Signac, and others, offering a rich cross-section of artistic innovation.

Together, these works reveal moments of leisure, labor, family life, and personal reflection, inviting viewers to pause and consider what it means to fully embrace the present.

As yet, ticket prices for the exhibition have not been announced. Please keep an eye on the official museum website for updates as the opening date draws closer.
