The chōzubachi (the place where you wash your hands before entering the shrine).

I really liked this angle although it make the statue seem a bit creepy.

A lovely stone path leads up to the shrine.

The front of the shrine is beautifully decorated in white and gold.

These are known as ema. They are purchased at shrines and often feature beautiful artwork. People write prayers on them and hang them up in the space provided.

At the shrine you can buy an assortment of charms to take with you.

公園を散歩している際に偶然に発見した護国神社は、福岡城跡と福岡市美術館のある大濠公園にほど近い。日本屈指の大きさを誇る木製の鳥居は周りの木々の上に顔を出し、高さは１３メートルに及ぶ。鳥居の大きさとは裏腹に小じんまりとした境内には、明治維新から大東亜戦争に至るまでの英霊が祀られている。大濠公園散歩の際にはぜひ立ち寄って欲しいスポットだ。
